POKER

Casino and Tournament Play

There's a big difference between Texas Hold'em Limit and No Limit play. No Limit is what you see on television, in tournaments, and what you'll usually play in home games.

Casinos will often have tables where there is a set limit on how much you can bet per round. The limit games are intended in part to protect you from major losses on a single hand. It also makes statisticis and pot odds more of a factor.

Whereas in the No Limit game, odds are still important but the larger stakes per hand makes betting the more important factor. Its' the no limit factor where you can and sometimes must go 'All In' on every hand that make tournaments so exciting.

For learning the subtle nuances of tournament play we recommend Tournament Poker For Advanced Players by David Sklansky. This will help teach you the key points.

Also, if you want to dream big, there's always the World Series of Poker. If you are looking for a tournament a bit closer, we recommend The Poker Club which hosts local tournaments in a number of cities on a weekly basis.
